Questions and Answers
1. Does my child have to wear a uniform?
YES, students are required to wear uniform clothing. Students should wear a solid white, navy, or red collared shirt with khaki or navy bottoms. Students may wear a school spirit shirt any day of the week. On Friday, students can wear jeans with a school spirit shirt! Order spirit shirts here: https://las-colinas-elementary-pta.square.site/
2. Where do I drop off my child in the morning?
Our front doors and back gym door for Hackberry Creek open at 7:00 a.m. for students who need time to eat breakfast in the cafeteria or they will go to the cafeteria until students are released to class at 7:15 a.m. After 7:15 a.m. students who arrive will go straight to their classrooms by entering through the side doors, Pre-K, Kinder, and 1st through the left doors, 2nd-5th grades through the side door at the flagpole. Students are tardy after the 7:30 a.m. bell rings and must enter through the front doors with a parent. Parents must sign them in and students must get a tardy pass to go to class.
3. When does the school day officially begin?
We begin classroom instruction at 7:30 a.m. If your child is not in their classroom by 7:30 a.m. they are considered tardy. It is our goal to have every student here, on time and ready to go for their day.
4. How can I pay for my child’s lunch if they are purchasing at school?
In 2024-25, parents will have a new one-stop-shop called SchoolCafe for all school meal needs.
Parents will create an account, add their students, and be ready to apply for Free and Reduced meals, check eligibility status, pre-pay, view transactions, and view menus with allergens.
You will need to set up an account with your email address. Once the account is set up you will be able to log-in and add your student and then put money in their account. Please have your student’s ID number available to add them (you will find this on parent self-serve/parent square). Your child’s teacher may also be able to give you their student ID number. Please go to this link if you have questions about the breakfast/lunch menu or how to apply for free/reduced lunch for the next school year: https://www.cfbisd.edu/departments/student-nutrition-services.
Breakfast: Universal Free Breakfast Lunch: $3.50
5. Can I send lunch to my student on campus?
Please have your student bring their lunches to school with them or they may go through the lunch
line for a lunch here on campus. If you forget to send your child’s lunchbox you may bring it up to
campus before 10:00 a.m. Please try not to make this an everyday procedure for lunch, as
we are trying to build responsibility with our students to come to school ready and prepared with
what they need for the day. Parent will need to email/parent square the teacher to let them know it
has been dropped off.
6. Can I send treats to school for my child’s birthday?
We encourage non-food items so that all students can participate in the festivities due to allergies
(excluding big items such as balloons and etc.) If bringing food items, they must be pre-packaged
individual treats or goody bags. Please let the child’s classroom teacher know (via parent
square/email) that you plan to send treats ahead of time so that they can plan for this as well. Please
keep in mind we are a peanut/nut free school.
7. Where do I pick up my child during dismissal?
All students are released through the front doors of the school or the back door of the gym for
Hackberry Creek, except for Pre-K students who are dismissed from the back of the school as well
as the PK students with an older sibling. If your student will be a car rider please follow the
green/red arrows on the dismissal map according to the grade specified. Please ALWAYS use your
car tag that is given when picking up your child.
8. Where can I purchase school supplies?
If you ordered a school supply pack ahead of time, supplies will be delivered on or before Meet the
Teacher Night on August 8th. You may also check with your child’s teacher for the school supplies
that they will need for their classroom. You will need to purchase these school supplies from your
local stores. (Walmart, Target, Amazon and etc.)
9. When can I volunteer and visit my student on campus?
Parents are able to volunteer on campus. They must first complete a volunteer background check
form online with the district https://www.cfbisd.edu/community/volunteer/steps-for-backgroundcheck
and once they are cleared, they will coordinate volunteer opportunities with our PTA volunteer
liaison and the classroom teachers they are assigned to help. Please always bring your Govt. issued
ID on campus as we need to verify who you are for everyone’s safety and security.
10. What do I need to do if I need to pick up my student early?
Students may be picked up early, if needed, as long as it is before 2:15 p.m. You will need to have
your government issued ID to pick them up in the office. We will not call a student out of classroom
instruction for an early dismissal until you are in the office here to pick them up. We also will not
release a student to anyone that is not on the contact list.
11. How will I hear about information related to Las Colinas Elementary?
Once your child is enrolled for school, you can download the ParentSquare App to receive messages
from the school. A monthly parent newsletter will go out through ParentSquare as well as weekly
reminders and special event posts. Please follow us on Instagram @lascolinasmustangs, and X
@LCEMustangs1.
12. Can my child take toys to school?
Toys should not be brought to school unless requested by the classroom teacher for an event or
project. Often times toys are lost, taken or broken and we cannot be held liable for these items. If
toys are brought to school and are taken out to play with during instruction or class time the first
time the student will receive a warning. If this continues the toy will be taken up by the teacher and
the parent will be notified to pick up the toy.
